Lillian Stokes is an award-winning author and photographer who produced thirty-five Stokes Guides with her husband, Don, selling over 5 million copies including the bestselling The Stokes Field Guide to the Birds of North America, the Stokes Field Guide to Birds: Eastern and Western Regions, the Stokes Beginner’s Guide to Birds, the Stokes Nature Guides, and the Stokes Backyard Nature Books. Lillian was the producer and co-host of two PBS bird watching TV series seen by 40 million viewers nationwide. Other achievements include being named a Federal Duck Stamp Judge and receiving a Partners in Flight National Conservation Award and a Kappa Kappa Gamma Lifetime Achievement Award. Lillian is on the board of directors of the Hawk Migration Association of North America.
Matthew A. Young is the founder and board president of the Finch Research Network. As a social worker, Matthew has also worked for twelve years with special needs populations at the William George Agency for Children’s Services. Additionally, Matthew has worked at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for fifteen years focusing on Golden-winged Warblers, Voices of Hawaii’s Birds and the Merlin Bird ID app. He was also project lead on the Cornell Lab’s first Irruptive Finch Survey in 1999. Widely known as a pre-eminent authority on finches of North America, Matthew has written finch species accounts for breeding bird atlases and Birds of the World and has published several papers on finches and the Red Crossbill vocal complex.
