Ring Ouzels!

Vic and Ken are amateur ornithologists and authors of The Ring Ouzel: A View from the North York Moors

Vic Fairbrother was a Chartered Librarian, working in Leicestershire, North Riding of Yorkshire, Cleveland and finally County Durham where he was Senior Assistant Director, Arts, Libraries and Museums. He was also a part-time and visiting lecturer in the Department of Information & Library Management, University of Northumbria. Retirement provided the opportunity to devote more time to his abiding interest in Natural History. He was BTO Regional Representative Cleveland 2005-17 responsible for coordinating Cleveland input to Bird Atlas 2007-11, numerous species surveys and the annual Breeding Bird Survey. He was President of Cleveland Naturalists’ Field Club for 12 years, member of Teesmouth Bird Club Committees, joint editor of and represented the club on the Tees Valley Biodiversity Partnership. Vic lives in Guisborough on the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park.

Kendrick Hutchinson has had a life-long interest in ornithology with a particular in upland birds. He was director of Kendrick Technology, a company he founded in the early 90s specialising in radio communications consultancy. After retirement he renewed his passion for upland birds and began a study of the Ring Ouzel. He has served on a number of local organisations including as a trustee of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and as chairman of both the Ryedale Natural History Society and the North Yorkshire Moors Association. He was a member of the National Park Authority’s sustainable development fund panel for nearly 10 years and helped shape the Authority’s first Biodiversity Action Plan. Ken resides in on the southern edge of Thornton-le-Dale.
