Keith Betton

The art of public speaking in the conservation world

Keith is a keen world birder having seen over 8,500 species in more than 100 countries. Keith has been a Council Member of both the RSPB and the BTO and is currently Vice President of the latter. Locally to where he lives, he is Chairman of the Hampshire Ornithological Society.

He is a mentor for A Focus on Nature, helping young people to plan their career paths in conservation and wildlife. Keith is also a founding trustee of the Cameron Bespolka Trust which creates opportunities for young people to engage with nature. He works closely with the Trust’s Young Ambassadors and has given media training advice to several who create vlogs and occasionally appear on TV.

In a varied career, Keith worked in public relations, particularly as the main spokesman for the UK travel industry (for 20 years). In that time, he made over 1000 TV appearances – often in live broadcast situations responding to headline news stories. He was also the regular travel expert on ITV’s This Morning for three years. He gave his first talk as a 15-year-old to a local Womens Institute group, and in his professional life he has moderated conferences attended by 2000 people.
